Gravel biking around Oirschot: golden autumn routes from Buitengoed de Bollen

There is one season when gravel biking around Oirschot is truly at its best, and that is now. The summer crowds are gone, the sandy paths are firm from the first rain, and the forests around Buitengoed de Bollen are slowly turning from green to gold. Step out of your tiny house in the morning, and within a few minutes you’ll be rolling along unpaved roads towards the heath and forest. No car, no bike rack, just hop on and go.

Why Oirschot is a gravel paradise

Oirschot is situated exactly where Brabant still has space. To the north of our country estate lie the Kampina and the Oirschotse Heide, and to the south the forests and estates towards Gorp and Roovert. What that means for gravel riders: kilometers of semi-paved paths, sandy tracks between meadows, forest paths with soft needles, and occasionally a stretch of cobblestones or an old brick road through a hamlet. It is never flat and boring, and never technically difficult. Exactly the kind of surface a gravel bike is made for.

And because we are centrally located between Eindhoven, Tilburg, and Den Bosch, you can go in any direction. A 40-kilometer loop across the heath? Possible. A long day towards the Belgian border? Three autumn rides we recommend

• Kampina and the fens (short and fresh). From De Bollen towards the Kampina, past the fens and along the wide sandy paths at the edge of the heath. In autumn, mist often hangs over the water in the morning, and you can see the Scottish Highland cattle grazing. Bring your coffee, as there are plenty of places to stop.
• Oirschotse Heide and the forests of Heerenbeek. A ride with a bit more variety: open heathland, dense pine forests, and the avenues of the estate. Ideal if you enjoy winding forest paths and don't want to sit for too long.
• Towards Gorp en Roovert (the long one). For those with half a day to spare: head south through the stream valley, via sandy tracks and estate woodlands. Here you can ride for hours without crossing a busy road. Along the way, you will come across plenty of villages to refill your water bottle.

All three rides start and end at your tiny house. That is perhaps the best thing about gravel biking from De Bollen: you don't have to ride anywhere to ride.

A little tip for autumn: bring a windbreaker and gloves. The mornings are chilly, but by midday you are usually riding wonderfully in the sunshine between the colorful trees.

After the drive: hot tub, outdoor oven, and no obligations

The best moment of a gravel day is actually the moment afterwards. Lean your bike against the tiny house, take off your shoes, and then jump into the hot tub that you can rent from us. While the water heats up, fire up the outdoor oven for a pizza or a piece of meat. That is how you round off a day in the saddle the way it should be: outdoors, with a blanket, and with the woods all around you.
